Rent Tribunal wants landlords to become members

Landlords are being invited to apply to serve on Jersey’s new Rent Tribunal. 

The tribunal will consider and determine residential tenancy rent increase appeals under laws approved by the island’s States Assembly legislators in September.

The available roles are:

Chair 

Deputy Chair 

Panel Members 

All roles require: 

  • Appropriate experience in housing and tenancy matters 
  • Impartial decision-making skills 
  • Excellent listening and communication skills 
  • Ability to process large volumes of information and work collaboratively. 

Chair and Deputy Chair:

  • Must hold a law degree or equivalent, approved by the Judicial Greffier
  • Minimum five years’ experience practising as a solicitor or Jersey advocate is advantageous 
  • Rate per sitting (half day): £400. 

Panel Members:

  • Applicants must have experience of housing and tenancy matters, ideally with expertise from a tenants’, landlords’ or consumer affairs perspective 
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and a business or administrative background advantageous 
  • Rate per sitting (half day): £150.
