Reform UK council set to put the squeeze on HMOs

One of the handful of councils run by Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party is putting HMOs under the spotlight.

West Northamptonshire Council is reviewing its policies on HMOs in the Northampton area, as part of the new Local Plan guiding future growth and development up to 2043.

It’s already help a drop in session this week where landlords, tenants and residents were invited to give their views on key themes – particularly improving living standards and safety, strengthening planning and licensing processes, reducing negative neighbourhood impacts, and encouraging clearer communication and collaboration with landlords and tenants.

A statement from the council says: “Your insights are crucial in helping develop a fair, evidence-based approach to HMO housing in the area” and a council spokesperson says: “We want to make sure our policies reflect what really matters to the people who live and work in West Northamptonshire. HMOs play a vital role in our housing mix, and this review is a chance to get it right – for communities, for tenants, and for the future. I encourage everyone to share their views and help shape a fairer, safer approach to shared housing.”
