Mayor Sadiq Khan launches affordable rental and sales portal

Controversial London Labour Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has launched an affordable property portal.

Homes for Londoners will list properties described as “London Living Rent” as well as properties for sale via shared ownership, discount schemes and a service called “Older Persons Shared Ownership.”

Khan’s publicists described it as “a one-stop shop bringing affordable home options together to support Londoners”.

“Whether buying or renting, Homes for Londoners serves as a central platform where users can search, compare and enquire about affordable properties.”

The portal lists homes from developers, housing associations, landlords and local authorities.

Tom Copley, the Labour deputy Mayor for housing, says: “The Mayor and I are doing everything we can to deliver more homes of all tenures, building on the progress which has already been made, with more new council homes started in London than at any time since the 1970s.

“… The Mayor’s enhanced property portal will help to connect Londoners to affordable homes and provide much-needed guidance on the housing schemes, as well as useful tools such as in-built affordability calculators on every listing.

“At a time when London’s housing market is facing significant challenges, it’s more important than ever that Londoners have clear, reliable information on the options available to them, as we build a better and fairer London for everyone.”
