Landlords will be able to use voice recognition on calls to HMRC

Landlords frustrated by slow responses and security processes when calling HMRC will soon be able to use their voices as passwords.

The Revenue has been heavily criticised for its failure to answer tens of thousands of calls from landlords and other taxpayers.

Note the government says HMRC is trialling a system used by banks to use voice recognition to improve call handling, allowing callers to pass security checks faster and more securely.”

The system will be introduced across HMRC services during the course of 2025 with callers’ voice recordings converted into encrypted biometric data, then used to clear security checks.

A government spokesperson claims “we are going further and faster to overhaul the way HMRC works.”
