High profile landlord solicitor joins central London practice

One of the UK’s best-known landlord and tenant solicitors in the private rental sector has joined London law firm Bishop & Sewell.

David Smith, who joins as a partner, specialises in property litigation, property regulation and data protection, particularly in relation to residential tenancies and agencies.

He has previously acted as the National Residential Landlords Association’s (NRLA) Legal Counsel and is a well-known author and speaker.

Senior Partner at Bishop & Sewell, Mark Chick, says: “David brings a vibrant practice particularly in the short lease area and the Renters Rights Act, and we are extremely pleased he has joined.

“Our Landlord and Tenant team is already well respected and adding David brings a synergistic opportunity to expand in the space and provide our clients with a complete package of support whatever their requirement.”

In his career, Smith has worked in every level of the civil courts, from county courts all the way to the Supreme Court, as well as magistrates and Crown Courts for tenants, landlords and agents.

He also has extensive experience in the First Tier and Upper Tribunals contesting decisions of local authorities and is widely recognised for his work on mediation.

He himself says: “This is a fantastic opportunity to add my work areas to this strong property firm.

“I am really looking forward to working with Mark Chick and the rest of the team offering clients an unrivalled service in this important and expanding legal practice area.”
