Free advice event for landlords set for next week

Landlords and letting agents are being offered free advice and information at a networking event hosted by Cumberland council.

The event is happening with the support of the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA).

The event will take place on Monday December 2 from 10:30am until 12:30pm at Allerdale House, Workington.

Also at the event will be representatives from Ad Hoc Property Management & Security, the Department of Work and Pensions and Cumbria Police.

The NRLA will be updating landlords and letting agents on legislative updates under the upcoming Renters Rights Bill, while the Department of Work and Pensions will be talking on the final claimants moving over from tax credits to Universal Credit.

Cumbria Police Organised Crime Unit will provide an overview of how landlords can protect their properties and help them to tackle against organised crime; the organisation AdHoc will explore what owners can do when they are unsure what to do about an empty property or a difficult let.

A council spokesperson says: “Whether you are a new landlord or someone with a large portfolio of properties, this event is for you. It’s an opportunity to get the latest news and advice from key organisations from the sector as well as network with fellow property owners.

“At Cumberland council we want to help landlords navigate the legal framework for landlords as well as ensure we have a high standard of rental properties available. This is why events like this are so useful, and I’d encourage local landlords to sign up today to our free event.”
