Confidential advice sessions for landlords to be staged by council

Fylde council is introducing free bi-monthly landlord surgeries to help private landlords navigate upcoming legislative changes and improve standards across the local rental sector.

The confidential drop-in sessions begin on Wednesday October 1, running from 2.30-4.30pm at Fylde town hall.

The surgeries bring together housing enforcement, homelessness prevention and housing advice officers to provide one-on-one guidance on compliance, tenant relations and regulatory requirements. With the Renters Rights Act introducing significant reforms including the abolition of Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions, periodic tenancies becoming standard and enhanced tenant rights surrounding pets and rent challenges, landlords need clear, practical advice to ensue compliance from day one.

“We want landlords to see the council as a supportive partner, not just an enforcement body,” said Councillor Chris Dixon, lead member for social wellbeing. “These surgeries offer a confidential space to ask questions, understand responsibilities and avoid future penalties.”

The free sessions operate on a drop-in basis with no appointment necessary. Future dates include the following:

  • Wednesday 3 December 2025, 2:30-4:30pm
  • Wednesday 4 February 2026, 2:30-4:30pm
  • Wednesday 1 April 2026, 2:30-4:30pm
  • Wednesday 3 June 2026, 2:30-4:30pm
  • Wednesday 5 August 2026, 2:30-4:30pm

This initiative supports the council’s broader commitment to improving housing standards and ensuring both landlords and tenants understand their rights and responsibilities within the evolving regulatory landscape.
